I've recently started on this course at Dundee Uni/Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
It's a mixture of creative work with academic, this semester I'm doing the modules:
My next task is to produce an 'elevator pitch' for a short comic to do this term. It's a good group of people on the course, and i'm looking forward to working with them more. Next semester I'm doing
The final two terms are producing a final creative project.

I've just completed a four page story about the 17th Century painter Johannes 'Jan' Vermeer. It imagines the story behind the creation of his painting known as Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window. The images are based on several Vermeer paintings, and other period sources, and adapted to suit the demands of the narrative. I'll use this to pitch a book length work about Vermeer. Laydeez Do Comics recently invited me to speak about Curse at one of their Glasgow events, and Tara Williamson blogged about it and also produced this wonderful illustration.
I created this piece for the Comics Unmasked competition, which ties in with the British Library exhibition of the same name. The brief was to create a piece with 3 rows of 3 panels, around one of the exhibition themes. I chose Breakdowns - drugs and altered states. Read it here. The long list has just been announced, and I'm pleased to report that The Curse of the Yellow Book has been included.
The competition is for a work in progress. Part of the submission was a synopsis of the book, and I have posted that on the site here. A Comic in 6 to the power of 6 permutations. If anything like this has been done before or since, it's news to me.
Originally hand made in tiny editions - it's so rare that even I don't have copy! To make it available again I have had this electronic version designed by Kevin Hobbs. GJ This book was originally hand-made by GJ in tiny editions. It's long out of print, but coming soon to this site in an interactive version realised by Kevin Hobbs. One permutation is shown below. Hi,
I'm pleased to advise that I have recently completed a 40+ page chapter of Curse of the Yellow Book, that is now posted on my site here. It does appear on the screen a bit smaller than I would like, and I am looking for solutions to that. G |
