Dead Trees (from The Outsider)
Inspired by the experimental comics of the 1970s and 80s, I wanted to create a purist type of comic that required ability neither in writing or drawing, but in the combining of the two into this hybrid form. The 'art', I imagined would be in the form itself:
the interplay of words and pictures, the breaking down of text onto a page, and so on.
Drawing with minimal skill would be relatively easy. For the text I ‘randomly’ chose and opened a book from my shelves: Albert Camus’ L’Etranger (in translation as ‘The Outsider’).
The two page Dead Trees, shown here was the result.
